Get prepared for SCRA at Doon Defence Academy

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Special Class Railway Apprentices' Examination (SCRA), for recruitment to the Special Class Apprentices in the Mechanical Department of Indian Railways.

If you want an extraordinary career in SCRA then enroll yourself at Doon Defence Academy which prepares you for the SCRA examination with providing you an adequate amount of study material and easy concepts. The candidates which got selected have to undergo a four-year rigorous training program in Mechanical Engineering. The semester system of BIT, Mesra is followed, with workshop training sessions during the holidays at BIT, Mesra. The apprentices get a stipend in the grade scale of Rs. 4000-4400 with dearness allowance, making the final allowance upto Rs. 7400, apart from medical benefits, privilege passes and PTOs.

After completing these 4 years of training, the deserving candidates who join as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) Officers in the Indian Railways.

These SCRAs get a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering after their 4 years of intense training. This degree is recognized by the AICTE.

The SCRA examinations are held at various centers across the country.

Started in 1927, the SCRA, one of the oldest programs in India involved selection of about 30 candidates by the UPSC to the undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical along with Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) at Jamalpur.

Previously, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has told the Railway Ministry that it is not inclined to hold the Special Class Railway Apprentice Examination (SCRA) and confirmed the public transporter to justify holding the exam.

The UPSC told the Railways that it is now finding the process of separate examination for a bulk of candidates as "disproportionate effort" as the Commission is also organizing annual engineering services examination for selection to Indian Railway Services in Mechanical Engineering (IRSME).
